2017 Board

President - Staci Makela

I have been on the board of CMSST for the last three years and am proud to be a part of it for the next three.  I have been in the San Antonio medical community for the last 15 years and have learned so much from the case managers, social workers, RN'S, administrators and other marketers. I am the Hospice Account Executive for San Antonio Home Health and Hospice.  I have been involved in hospice for most of my experience and love being able to help patients and families get the help that they so desperately need and deserve.

I have 22 year old twin boys who are currently in college, and living here in San Antonio.  My roots are deep in San Antonio, I graduated from Harlandale HS, then went on to Northwest Vista where I graduated with an Associates.  Next I transferred to Incarnate Word University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Sociology and English.

I look forward to what this coming year has to offer CMSST and all those who are involved.

CMSST Seeks a member to make a 3-year commitment to grow and strengthen the organization.  Contact the current President if you are interested or know someone who will be a great candidate.

I have been a nurse since 1983 and an RN since 1993. I became a case manager in 2003 and started attending CMSST meetings that year. I have always loved to learn and try to attend as many CE meetings as possible. I feel I owe a good deal of my case management knowledge to CMSST and the CE presentations the organization provides. My career in case management has been spent entirely in Pediatric Private Duty Home Health so I don’t have experience in so many of the multitude of other areas of case management. The information I gather in the CMSST meetings helped round out my knowledge and the networking with other members has opened up pathways and connections I might not have otherwise made. Overall, the whole experience has made me appreciate what goes into running and maintaining an organization like this-and what those who have been on the Board on the past and/or for multiple years have done for me. Being a member of the Society and now a member of the Board has been a Win-Win situation for me. I recommend it for everyone who is involved in case management-for education, CEs, networking, and friendships.

Annual Conference Chair - Ida M. Leithead, BSN, RN, WCC

As the Health Services Business Development Manager for Blue Skies of Texas (Formally Air Force Village) I bring 7+ years of long term care and senior living experience.  I started my nursing education after I was honorably discharged for the United States Navy in 2005.  I went to Kaplan College and received my License as a Vocational Nurse in 2009, continuing my education further with The Baptist School of Health Professions where I earned my Associates Degree of Science in Nursing and my license as a Registered Nurse in 2012.  Shortly after I pursued my Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree through West Texas A&M University and graduated in 2014.  After receiving my Bachelor’s Degree I was commissioned in the Army National Guard into the Army Nurse Corps.

I have transitioned and grown further in my leadership roles with the support and guidance of Blue Skies of Texas .  I have grown from staff nursing, wound care coordinator, RN Case Manager to now their first Business Development Manager.  I look forward to this year as the Conference Chair and hope to continue to grow and develop and as a member of the CMSST I hope to gain more knowledge and experiences as well as share some of my own.

As Director of Operations, my passion for seniors is evident when sharing information about our senior care services to the San Antonio community. My expertise in outreach education and senior care resources allows me to provide valuable information to the health care professionals and community serving our seniors.  I regularly gain inspiration from my grandfather, who passed away soon after turning 100 years old.  I am a native of St. Louis, but have lived in the San Antonio area for over 15 years with my husband and two daughters, son in law and granddaughter.  I have a background in radio and television, which remains one of my passions. I have had the privilege of serving as a committee member on the Walk to End Alzheimer's for San Antonio for the past three years. I head  up Home Instead Senior Cares program “Be a Santa to a Senior”. Last year, I helped organize getting over 1900 gifts donated to seniors in need.

As the owner of Assisted Living Locators, I provide expert advice to seniors and families on Senior Housing and care. I am a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®, with broad knowledge and experience on the social, legal, financial, medical and ethical issues related to older adults.  Previously, I was an officer in the U.S. Army, serving both as a nuclear, biological & chemical defense officer and as a foreign area officer in Latin America.  I retired as a Colonel after 30 years of service.  I've earned a MS in Biology as well as in Strategic Studies.  I’m professionally fluent in Spanish and English which helps me serve San Antonio’s diverse population.
